This series of posts chronicles my progress in landscaping the front yard. You’re probably wondering what a post on landscaping has to do with the theme of this website. Well, we just completed a fairly major remodel of the house itself - basically a testament to my wife’s intention and creativity. We both consider the home remodel to be an example of embarking on a venture without really knowing how we were going to accomplish it. We didn’t have a detailed plan and neither of us had any serious experience in that area. But my wife was able to find some very good contractors and, though there were some hiccups along the way, progress was made and after a little over a year the major portion of the remodeling is completed.
So now we need to give the front yard some attention, and I’ve accepted that as my own charge. I have much less enthusiasm for this type of work that my wife does, which adds to the challenge. No, I’m not planning on manually doing the landscape myself - at least not all of it - but just directing the contractors and making sure things keep moving will be time-consuming enough. Did I mention that I have little passion for this? Anyway, passion or not, my intention is to create a front yard that my wife (and, yeah, myself) will enjoy. And I truly believe that anything that is accomplished will be by the grace of God, or, through the law of attraction, whichever term you prefer.
What we’ve done so far is develop a general layout plan. We want to tear up the concrete driveway and replace it with a paver-stone driveway. We also want to use paver stones to create a walkway from the front porch to the sidewalk. I’ve been trying unsuccessfuly for about a week to contact the guy who did my neighbor’s driveway (we like the work he did). Haven’t tried contacting anyone else.
In keeping with the practice of conscious creation, I’ve been spending a few minutes each day conjuring up the feeling of the yard being completed … how it feels to be walking on the walkway … viewing the plants neatly arranged and trimmed … the new lawn fresh and green. This will be the first time I’ve “consciously” made such an intention, so we’ll see what manifests in the weeks and months ahead.
